Can art be related to the mysteries of the world and everyday life, magical powers, supernatural phenomena as well as mythology, legends and animism? This emphasis is not a desire to question the limits of science, glorify mysticism or pursue art as a form of entertainment. Rather, by reexamining these realms, which cannot be explained through logic or reason, we can shed light on values which have been marginalized or even forgotten while considering the relationship between humans and nature which offers a more flexible and open way of relating to the world as well as alternative views of things and historical events.

Contemporary Colours showcases the diverse and dynamic approaches through which 18 contemporary artists engage with significant societal and cultural issues across various artistic mediums. The exhibition fosters dialogue, encouraging viewers to reflect on the complexities of identity, memory, politics, and environment. Using sculpture, mixed media, painting, and printmaking, the artists offer both personal and cultural reflections making the exhibition a multifaceted platform for critical discourse.

HIRAN MITRA SOLO

Hiran Mitra is a well known reputed artist of the city whose works are not limited within the canvas rather has extended to theatre, book cover design, even cinema. He is one of the few artists in the city who has developed his own style of non figurative painting with distictive usage of colour. His contribution to Kolkata’s cultural arena is immense. KIFALC feels privileged to hold first solo exhibition at this Centre. The name of the exhibition is ‘Past and Present’.

Annual group exhibition

This exhibition featuring the works of a varied and diverse group of aims to analyze artistic identity within the paradigm of contemporary cultural trends. The variation in style and media and creative processes of the artists as well as their desire for experimentation is an integral element of this venture. The stylistic and technical approach together with the content and impact of the works is likely to be of considerable significance within contemporary artistic discourse.

All the artists in this show have a specific creative agenda. Through the making of their art and through their creative processes, they wish to make bold statements. The purpose of each varies as do the means. Why then are these various modes being used? The answer is a simple one: to manufacture cultural identity on a macro level and individual identity on the micro level.
